With regards to the inquiry received about the packed shrimp does not contains real shrimp, but rather a paste with shrimp flavor, here is the Food Safety Department’s response to this inquiry:

This product, called cooked prawns, was previously investigated by the Food Inspection section after receiving a notification from one of the clients, where the following has been found:

• The product is a dough made of ground shrimp and fish with other ingredients to form the product, and topped with breadcrumbs.
• The product is not whole shrimp but its ingredients are real ground shrimp, not shrimp flavor as mentioned in the inquiry.
• The problem was with the product name and the ingredients were not describing the product correctly.
• The necessary legal measures have been taken against the company that packaged the product due to misleading in the product label and it was prohibited to be sold.

The Food Safety Department of Dubai Municipality confirms that it continuously monitors all local and imported food and ensures its safety and suitability for consumption.
