Scientific Name: Limosa limosa

Common passage migrant and  winter visitor to UAE.

Size: 37-42 cm long, 63- 74 cm wingspan

Habitat: Coastal mudflats and sandy intertidal zones, also inland saline and freshwater marshes. Inland, more likely to be found in freshwater.

IUCN Status: Near Threatened (NT)

Other Status: Part of the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Water-Birds (AEWA).

You can spot Black-Tailed Godwits at Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary which supports a number of globally threatened species of water-birds.​

Size: 110–150 cm tall

Habitat: Shallow coastal lagoon, lakes and mudflats.

Size: Length: 30 – 38 cm

Habitat: Vegetated marshes, pond, canals and other wetlands.

Diet: Feeds on anything including small fish, earthworms, insects, plant matter and even birds’ eggs.

Scientific Name: Numenius arquata

Size: Length 52 to 55 cm

Habitat: Breeds on moors and marshlands as well as in  moist meadows. Also found on coastal mudflats and sometimes the muddy shores of lakes and rivers.

Diet:  Mollusks, crabs, and polychaete worms
