​Scientific Name: Lepus capensis

Size:  Head-body Length: 40 – 68 cm,  tail length between 7 -15 cm.

Habitat:  Arid and desert environments

Diet: Grasses and non-woody plants

IUCN  Red List Status:  Least Concern

Cape hares survices in the hot arid environments through some amazing adaptations:  minimizing water loss by producing concentrated urine; ability to drink saline waters; and radiating heat through their large ears.  They sometimes also hide in burrows to escape high temperatures.

Habitat:  Warmer areas and also adapted to urban areas.

Diet: Variety  of foods including seeds, fruit, stems, leaves, fungi, and a range of invertebrates and vertebrates

Size:  Up to 27 cm
long

Habitat:  Desert
environments and other arid areas.

Diet:. Insects and other invertebrates, occasionally feeding on eggs chicks and scorpions.
